Foodie Fare – Italy's Food Festivals

It is no secret that Italian's love their food, and are credited with creating some of the best products in the world.

To celebrate these gourmand goodies, every year festivals are held all over Italy with the aim of introducing foodies to the best Italy can supply. If you can't make it this year Basilico is on hand to provide a tasty alternative.

In a small town in the north of Italy a festival is held every year to celebrate Italy's world-famous prosciutto. San Daniele del Friuli in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region is known as being the production centre of San Daniele prosciutto and they pay homage to this over four days in June, with people coming from all over the world to learn about the history and creation of the famous ham, as well as to try samples of the best examples in the area. No time off to travel to Northern Italy? Experience fine prosciutto in London with our Pizza Roma. Alongside mozzarella, aubergine, rocket, and pesto sauce, enjoy the salty yet delicate flavour of our prosciutto crudo.

A little further west of San Daniele del Friuli lies the region of Veneto, home to another of Italy's finest products. Known for being Prosecco's place of origin, every year the city of Treviso celebrates the best of wine over four months, from March to June. Visitors to the Primavera del Prosecco festival, the most important wine tourism festival in Veneto, enjoy tours around important cities, as well as tastings and culinary evenings. The festival celebrates many excellent local wines but the focus rests on the Valdobbiadene Prosecco. Host your own evening of Prosecco tasting from the comfort of your home with Basilico's Prosecco from the same Valdobbiadene Conegliano DOCG.

One of Italy's more decadent delicacies is the truffle. Found in several areas of the Piedmont region in northern Italy, the most famous spots for truffle-hunting are the cities of Alba and Asti. In recognition of this, Alba plays host to one of the largest white truffle fairs in Italy. The focal point of the festival is the White Truffle Market, where wines, cheeses, and cured meats are sold along with carefully chosen and inspected white truffles. Cooking demonstrations and various workshops show visitors how to experience white truffles in the best way possible. As this rare truffle only appears for two months every year, in Autumn, the festival takes place over October and November. Can't wait that long to enjoy this distinct flavour? Experience the decadence with our Pizza Funghi au Truffle. Topped with wild mushrooms, fresh tomato, mozzarella, and salami, this pizza is drizzled with truffle oil, so you don't need to wait until autumn to enjoy the taste of truffle.

Whether you are taking a tour of Italy's culinary delights or hosting your own Basilico's foodie festival, enjoy a fantastic gastronomic experience.
